Genital warts are caused by certain strains of the human papilloma virus (HPV). There is a vaccine on the market(Gardasil) that protects against two strains that cause 90% of all genital warts. If you are female and uner 27, you can ask your doctor about getting the vaccine. Genital herpes are caused by herpes simplex viruses 1 and 2 (usually 2). Herpes lesions occur as periodic, fluid-filled blisters the rupture, crust over and go away for a while. There is no vaccine for herpes yet. Herpes can be treated with medication so that you have less out breaks, but the virus will be in your system for life. Herpes blisters can't be burned off as with genital warts. The out breaks come and go. Genital warts can be burned off, but HPV (genital warts) is also permanent.
