How do you get rid of genital warts? Preferably an at home remedy?

   I wouldn’t use any "at home remedies". It’s much easier to just them treated by a doctor.

   Every person is different. What works well for others, may not work well for you. There are several different ways a person can get rid of them.

   A doctor can prescribe a cream that the person can use at their convenience and at their home. Aldara cream and Condylox cream are available with a prescription.

   If these creams don’t work or the doctor doesn’t want to try them, the doctor might suggest applying medication at the office. This is done by the doctor, is done in several visits and can be pretty expensive. Some of the medications that can be used include: Podophyllin resin (Podofin), Intralesional (injected into wart lesion) interferon, Fluorouracil (Efudex, Fluoroplex), and Trichloroacetic acid (TCA) or bichloroacetic acid (BCA).

   A person can also have surgery to remove genital warts by freezing (cryosurgery), burning (electrocautery), or laser treatment. Surgery is occasionally used to remove large warts that have not responded to other treatment.

   Although treatments can get rid of the warts, they do not get rid of HPV, so warts can recur after treatment. The body’s immune system typically clears the virus anywhere from 8 to 13 months, but it occasionally remains in the body for a lifetime.

   Treatment can remove the visible warts but cannot eradicate the virus. The type of treatment depends upon the location and size of the genital warts and treatment options should be discussed with a physician.
   Those options include the following: In cryotherapy, applying liquid nitrogen or dry ice once in a week freezes warts. This treatment should continue for several weeks under a doctor’s supervision. In electrodessication, electric current is used to destroy the warts. Laser treatment physically destroys the virus (HPV).
   Several medications are available to treat genital warts. Condylline imiquimod is applied as cream as is Efudex . Surgery is the most effective treatment for Genital warts and has the highest success rate-between 60 to 90 percent. To lessen transmission of the disease, to sexual partner never touch or squeeze the warts.
   Most treatments destroy the infected cells but they do not remove the virus. Therefore, the virus remains in the skin and may return after the treatment. That is why proper precaution must be taken to avoid further growth of the virus.

   There are no home remedies that are very effective. A friend of mine had cervical cancer due to HPV. PLEASE see your doctor regularly for a PAP test!!

   You need to see a doctor or clinic for treatment. Remember you will never erradicate the virus so it’s important to get regular papsmears. A friend of mine is currently undergoing cancer treatment, she had cervical cancer (from a strain of HPV) that led to bladder cancer and uterine cancer. She is in the fight of her life.

   The HPV that cause or leads to cervical cancer isn’t the same HPV that give warts.

   Go to a M.D. to have genital warts removed. Cryo (freezing) them off never worked for me. I had them cut off by my ob/gyn for about six years and finally they stopped coming and recently when tested for that strain of HPV I was negative.
